TFA - RGV PRISM

Each of the students we serve at Teach For America is multifaceted like a PRISM. Because we serve students in low-income communities we realize that, for those who are part of the LGBTQ+ community, additional barriers to receiving the deserved quality education are formidable. Teach for America’s LGBTQ+ Community Initiative believes in being both culturally responsive, LGBTQ+ inclusive, and community responsive. To that end, our PRISM network represent brave affinity groups comprised of corps members, alumni, staff, community members, and students, working jointly to advance Teach For America’s vision: “One Day ALL children in this nation will have an opportunity to attain an excellent education.”
In the Rio Grande Valley, we work alongside LGBTQ+ and allied partners in the area to advance educational equity in line with our national initiative. We believe that this effort is as true for our LGBTQ+ educators and leaders as for anyone. Namely, that it is critical that we work bravely to ensure equity and inclusiveness is true for countless LGBTQ+ students in communities we serve. Teach with dignity, lead with dignity, learn with dignity: That’s the essence of #BraveEducation.
